This part of the coastline is also renowned for its shingle beaches and historic harbors. Winchelsea Beach, a shingle ridge of great ecological importance, home to various wildlife species. Rye Harbour, a nature reserve with shingle ridges, saltmarshes, and a historic harbor town.
Walking the Undercliff Path
The Undercliff Path is a great way to explore the beautiful Sussex coastline while enjoying a leisurely walk or bike ride.
The path takes you from Brighton Marina to Saltdean with stunning views of the coastline along the way.
It is ideal for both pedestrians and cyclists. The path is well-maintained, flat, and accessible. A great option for people of all ages and abilities, including families with strollers and those using wheelchairs.
There are also several cafes and amenities along the way, allowing you to take breaks and enjoy refreshments.

Yet, for all its ruggedness, the East Sussex coast is a haven for wildlife. The marshlands of the Pevensey Levels, once flooded by the sea, now offer a sanctuary for migratory birds and a respite for those seeking solace in nature.

This coastline is no stranger to conflict, having borne witness to countless invasions and battles throughout history. The remnants of ancient fortifications, such as the imposing Pevensey Castle and the stalwart Martello towers are dotted along the seafront.
