‘BEST FOOD FESTIVAL IN UK’ RETURNS!

The countdown’s on for the best food festival in the UK, according to visitbritain.com – Pembrokeshire Fish Week 2012!

Between 23rd June and 1st July, Fish Week has some 250 events celebrating the county’s superb fish and shellfish, the spectacular coastline, and the county’s maritime heritage.

Also voted one of the tastiest festivals in Europe by the Independent, Fish Week has lots of fantastic range eating out events featuring plenty of fresh local seafood – plus some mouthwatering demos and workshops.

Don’t miss ‘A Fair Fish for a Fare Dish’, a celebrity chef seafood Masterclass at the Torch Theatre in Milford Haven on June 27th with Bryn Williams, Anthony Evans, Ravinder Bhogal, and Alun Williams.

The chefs will be fishing or diving for sustainable fish and shellfish on the morning of the Masterclass, then returning to the theatre with their haul ready to transform it into inspirational dishes.

And if you want to get stuck into some cooking yourself, why not reserve a place at one of two Indian sea food workshops with Anand George, one of the UK’s most acclaimed Indian chefs, on 26th June.

The proprietor of The Purple Poppadum in Cardiff, Anand will also be presenting Indian fish cookery demonstrations at Pembrokeshire Fish Week’s opening day at Milford Haven Marina on 23rd June.

Back by popular demand this year are Sushi workshops with Kimie Atkins, Japanese sushi expert, on 28th June at Pembrokeshire College.

If you want to learn all about filleting fish, reserve your place at hands-on workshops with champion fish craftsman (and woman!) Duncan and Sue Lucas from Passionate About Fish at Pembrokeshire College on 25th June.

The pair will also be holding fish filleting classes at secondary schools throughout the week, supported by Valero.

And if you want to satisfy your appetite and your adrenaline, there’s plenty on the menu!

New for 2012 are surfing, kayaking, coasteering and abseiling lessons at various locations with Dragon Activity Guides on the North Pembrokeshire coast.

After your activity, sit back and relax as they prepare you a fresh seafood meal back at the beach, from whole fresh dressed crab to acqua pazza and surf’ n’ turf.

More new activities include wild food foraging walks with Clear Conscience Activities and beginners’ hedgerow and seashore foraging walks with Wild About Pembrokeshire.

Or why not get some fresh sea air in fishing boat trips from Dale with Broadside Boat Charters. Enjoy two-hour mackerel and pollock trips, or more adventurous four-hour trips to Skokholm and Skomer Islands in search of larger fish.
There are also lots of great family activities. Children can enjoy beach exploring sessions, fishing lessons, crab-catching, sandcastle challenges and much more.

If your children enjoy cooking, then don’t miss the children’s fish cookery marquee, sponsored by Valero at Milford Haven Marina on 23rd June – and ‘Kids Cooking with The Stars’ at Folly Farm on 30th June with Ant and Al from S4C’s Stwnsh Sadwrn.

Fish Week casts off on Saturday 23rd June with a big opening day for families and foodies at Milford Haven marina packed with cookery demos, activities, entertainment, stalls and workshops. Come along and enjoy the fun!

Pembrokeshire Fish Week is organised by Pembrokeshire County Council and part-funded by the Welsh Government.
