Visit Tenby South Beach
Tenby South Beach in South Pembrokeshire is a perfect escape for beach lovers of all kinds – especially those looking to avoid the hustle and bustle of busier spots.
If you’re looking for wide open sands, sweeping views, and a more laid-back vibe than Tenby’s other beaches, South Beach is the one. Stretching over a mile and backed by dunes, it’s the perfect place to unwind, walk, or dip your toes in the sea.
South Beach is the longest of Tenby’s beaches, stretching over 1.5 miles southwards to Giltar Point and Penally. This makes it ideal for long walks, jogging, or finding a quiet spot away from the crowds. The sandy beach is backed by dunes and the coastal path runs directly along the beach.
Unlike North Beach and Castle Beach, South Beach is lined with natural sand dunes, giving it a more wild and unspoiled atmosphere – perfect for nature lovers and peaceful picnics.
Its gently sloping shoreline makes it ideal for safe swimming and popular with paddleboarders, bodyboarders, and even kite surfers when the wind’s up.
Thanks to its sheer size and slight distance from the town centre, South Beach tends to be less crowded, even during summer – perfect if you’re looking for a more tranquil vibe. At low tide, you can walk along the sand from South Beach to Castle Beach, making for a great coastal stroll with varied scenery and tide-watching fun.
Dogs are welcome on most parts of South Beach all year round, though there’s a small restricted zone closer to town from May to September. It’s a top spot for dog walkers.
Enjoy the stunning Views of Caldey Island. You’ll get clear, uninterrupted views of Caldey Island, just offshore. On clear days, you might even see boats coming and going between the island and Tenby Harbour.
