Visit Appledore Beach
Appledore Beach in North Devon sits on the estuary of the Taw and Torridge rivers looking across to Instow Beach. The sandy beach is popular with families in the summer.
The quay is the site of many of Appledore’s annual events, including the Appledore and Instow Regatta every summer, which features The World Championship Crabbing Competition and gig boat races along the quay.
Appledore was the first place to have a Tide and Time bell installed. You can hear the distinctive sound of the bell ringing out around 9:15pm each evening, coinciding with the high tide. At low tide you can walk up to it.
Take a stroll around the charming narrow streets of this historic village, pop into the local shops, or head to the waterfront on Irsha St where there are two pubs, both of which look out on to the estuary.
The are a couple of hotels and holiday cottages in the village for a peaceful holiday stay.
