Pegwell Bay

Visit Pegwell Bay

Pegwell Bay is a sandy bay with mudflats, backed by a stretch of sea cliffs. The area is a haven for wildlife and part of Kent’s largest National Nature Reserve.

The remains of the Hovercraft docks, which was open from 1969 to 1982, are still visible.

Did you Know? On permanent display on the cliff top at Pegwell Bay is a replica of the Viking ship Hugin, which sailed from Denmark to Thanet in 1949 to mark the 1500th anniversary of the invasion of Britain.

The beach doesn’t get busy and is mainly used by local dog walkers.

On the cliffs towards Ramsgate is the Pegwell Bay Hotel a great place to stay for sightseeing in the area.
