Visit Kingsgate Bay
Kingsgate Bay has a small sandy beach in Kent which is popular location for families and dog walkers. The beach is backed by high white chalk cliffs, with sand exposed at high tide.
Situated on the Kent coast, the beach is overlooked by Kingsgate Castle and has fantastic sea caves to explore and look for fossils. The beach is generally quieter than nearby Joss Bay and Botany Bay, offering a peaceful escape. The water is suitable for paddling about, making it a popular spot for families and dogs.
Kingsgate Bay was renamed after King Charles I landed there due to a storm, and nearby Kingsgate Castle, built in the 1760s, adds historical charm.
There are small chalets to rent at the top of the stairs leading down to the beach.
Kingsgate Bay lacks public toilets and lifeguard services, however, the nearby Captain Digby pub, a family-friendly establishment, offers food, drinks, and a café/restaurant, providing a convenient option for refreshments.
Beach huts are available for hire, at the top of the stairs leading down to the beach, offering a place to store belongings or relax. Parking is available at the Captain Digby pub for a day rate, though it is best to to check in advance. Alternatively, park at nearby Joss Bay, with a larger car park, allows for a short walk to Kingsgate Bay, which may be a more convenient option for some.
Kingsgate Bay is dog-friendly, allowing dogs on the beach all-year round.
Parking can be difficult but it is a short walk from Joss Bay where there is a large car park.
