Visit Shanklin Beach
Family friendly Shanklin Beach is at the southern end of Sandown Bay on the Isle of Wight. Soft yellow sand, gentle waters and a classic seaside atmosphere. It is especially well suited to families with young children, thanks to safe bathing conditions and plenty of space for paddling and play
The beach stretches for nearly two miles beneath warm red cliffs and is actually made up of three linked beaches: Shanklin, Small Hope and Lake. Access is easy via slipways and steps, with the Esplanade and Hope Road being the most straightforward routes. For something a little different, the historic Shanklin Cliff Lift provides a scenic ride down from the clifftop to the seafront.
Grab some fish and chips or an ice cream and stroll along the esplanade.
Facilities are excellent and close at hand. You’ll find public toilets, cafés, ice cream kiosks and plenty of places to grab classic fish and chips. A stroll along the esplanade is a must, especially on a sunny day, with views across Sandown Bay and the sound of the sea never far away.
Shanklin Beach proudly holds Blue Flag status, reflecting its high standards for water quality and safety. It is generally a very safe beach, making it a reliable choice for a summer visit. Rock pooling can be enjoyed at low tide, especially near the edges of the bay.
There is lots to keep everyone entertained along Shanklin seafront. Arcades, Crazy golf, cafes, hotels and bars. There are themed crazy golf venues, fun for all ages. Take the Shanklin Cliff Lift down to the beach from Eastcliff promenade.
Enjoy the beach, or get into the water for a swim, hire a kayak or paddleboard.
There is plenty of parking all up and down this beach.
