Visit Sandy Point Beach
Sandy Point at the southeastern tip of Hayling Island in Hampshire, stands out as one of the UK’s unique coastal gems. With a blend of natural beauty and maritime heritage unique to the Solent region. This beach, also known as Black Point, features fine white sand, with some pebbles, creating a picturesque shoreline that’s less crowded than more commercial UK beaches.
At the end of the sandy spit, is the Hayling Island Sailing Club (HISC). As well as Hayling Islands R.N.L.I. and the boathouse is open to the public for those wanting to take a closer look at the boats.
A short circular walk around the point provides stunning views of the Isle of Wight and passing yachts, making it ideal for birdwatching or photography sessions that capture the raw, unspoiled essence of UK seaside landscapes.
Just south of the life boat station is the Sandy Point Nature Reserve, it encompasses diverse habitats including sand dunes, heathland, and shingle ridges, which are emblematic of Britain’s protected coastal ecosystems under Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) designations.
The area overlooks Chichester Harbour, a haven for migratory birds, and echoes the island’s historical role in WWII defences and as the birthplace of windsurfing in 1958.For tourists and beachgoers, Sandy Point is a paradise for water sports enthusiasts, with opportunities for windsurfing, sailing, and kayaking in the sheltered waters.
