Seal Colonies and Wildlife
Some beaches in Norfolk implement seasonal restrictions, typically from May 1 to September 30, to protect wildlife during nesting seasons. During these months, dogs may be required to be on a lead or restricted from certain areas.
There are restrictions on dogs at Blakeney Point during certain seasons. Dogs are not allowed beyond clearly marked restricted areas during the ground nesting bird season, which runs from April 1st to August 15th, and during the seal pupping season from late October to mid-January. These restrictions are in place to protect the wildlife, including nesting birds and seals, which are significant attractions of the area.
Horsey Beach in Norfolk allows dogs, but there are specific restrictions during certain times of the year to protect the wildlife, particularly the seal population. From late October to February, during the seal pupping season, there is no access to the beach itself. During this time, visitors can view the seals from designated paths in the dunes, and dogs must be kept on a short lead to avoid disturbing the seals.
