Visit Penally Beach
Penally beach is located at the end of Tenby South beach, towards Giltar Point on the South Pembrokeshire coast. It’s technically part of Tenby South Beach. It is the western end of Tenby South Beach but has its own distinct feel. Less developed and more wild, with dunes, open views, and fewer people.
To get to the beach, park at the station in the lovely village of Penally and walk the coastal path to the beach.
The coastal path runs right on the beach here, which is backed by the Tenby Golf Course.
It’s very quiet – Even in Summer! Thanks to limited access and fewer facilities, Penally Beach is often peacefully empty, even in the peak season. Perfect for quiet walks, meditation, photography, or a romantic seaside moment.
Backed by dunes and grassland, and with big skies and open sea ahead, this beach feels immersive and raw. It’s ideal for nature lovers, painters, or anyone craving a more rugged coastal experience.
Penally has a military range in the area and is sometimes used for military training. You may hear or see signs of activity nearby. Public access to the beach is usually unaffected, but it’s something to be aware of. Check signage when entering.
This is a wild beach – no toilets, shops, or lifeguards. Make sure to bring everything you need (water, snacks, suncream, etc.) and be mindful of the tides. If you walk the clifftop path to Giltar Point you have a great view of Caudly Island.
For dogs? No seasonal restrictions here – Penally Beach is fully dog-friendly year-round, making it a favourite for local dog walkers and travellers with pups in tow.
Whether you’re walking from Tenby or starting in Penally, this beach is tailor-made for coastal walkers, photographers, and anyone who loves the rhythmic sound of the sea under a big sky.
