Freshwater West

Visit Freshwater West

Freshwater West, located on the Pembrokeshire coastal path, is a must-visit destination for surfers and beach lovers alike. This south-west facing beach offers excellent surfing opportunities, with long and stunning sunsets that are sure to take your breath away. If you’re traveling with kids, the rock pools are an ace way to explore the beach’s diverse marine life.

Freshwater West is famous for more than just its natural beauty. Hollywood has used this location as the backdrop for several films, including Robin Hood and Harry Potter. The beach scenes in the 2010 Robin Hood film were shot here, while Dobby the House Elf’s famous grave can be found from the Harry Potter movies, with a huge memorial to Dobby located on the beach.

Freshwater West is celebrated for its consistent and powerful waves, making it a hotspot for experienced surfers. However, due to strong rip currents, it’s advisable for only seasoned surfers to venture into these waters.

Lifeguards are on duty daily from mid-June to early September, between 10 am and 6 pm. Visitors should exercise caution and adhere to safety guidelines, especially outside these hours.

Anglers frequent Freshwater West for its abundant marine life. The rocky areas and reefs provide excellent spots for fishing, with species like bass commonly caught.

When you’re ready for a break from the waves, there’s a mobile cafe that serves refreshments on sunny days.

Unlike many beaches with seasonal dog restrictions, Freshwater West welcomes dogs throughout the year, allowing pet owners to enjoy unrestricted beach walks with their furry companions.

Don’t miss the chance to experience Freshwater West’s magical scenery and legendary waves.
