Hemmick Beach

Visit Hemmick Beach

Hemmick Beach is a secluded sandy beach, reached bottom of a long narrow road from Boswinger west of Gorran Haven.

At low tide, numerous rock pools emerge, offering endless exploration opportunities for curious kids and adults. The sandy open space is perfect for building sandcastles.

For those who enjoy swimming, Hemmick’s waters are inviting, especially as they warm up in the summer months. The beach is safe for a refreshing dip, though as always, be mindful of sea conditions.

For those wanting a complete retreat, Hemmick Cottage, a charming holiday rental sits at the entrance to the beach.

Beyond the beach itself, Hemmick serves as a great starting point for coastal walks. Stunning paths lead in both directions, offering breathtaking views of Cornwall’s dramatic coastline. Walkers can take the South West Coast Path down to Dodmans Point, and enjoy the natural beauty and scenic surroundings.

There are no facilities and no toilets, but there is a National Trust Car Park about a 10-15 minute walk away in of the old farming hamlet of Penare.

It’s important to note that access to this hidden gem can sometimes requires some planning:

  1. The recommended approach is to park at the National Trust car park at Penare and enjoy a lovely walk down to the beach. This free car park has limited spaces (about 20), so arrive early during peak times.
  2. If driving directly to the beach, be aware that the road is extremely narrow and steep, suitable only for small cars. There’s very limited parking near the beach itself (space for only about 3 cars), so this option isn’t recommended for most visitors.
  3. The walk from the car park and the beach access might be challenging for those with mobility issues or carrying lots of beach gear.

Despite these logistical considerations, visitors love Hemmick for its unspoiled beauty, cleanliness, and peaceful atmosphere. It’s a place where you can truly disconnect and enjoy nature at its finest.
