Visit Jacob’s Ladder Beach
A short distance east of Sidmouth Town beach is Jacobs’s Ladder beach. Access down to the beach is by the historic ladder, which was first built in 1871, onto a wide stretch of sandy beach backed by the South West Coast path.
Dogs are banned from the immediate area of Jacobs ladder from May 1st to September 30th, but are allowed along the Western end.

Jacob’s Ladder Beach Dogs Policy
Dogs are allowed off-lead all year round on Jacob’s Ladder Beach.
Leads are required in front of beach huts and along nearby esplanade sections. It’s quieter than the main town beach and very dog-friendly.
A top pick for stress-free seaside walks.
