Visit Dunraven Bay – Southerndown Beach
Dunraven Bay or Southerndown Beach, is a lovely beach located about half an hours drive west of Cardiff on the Glamorgan coast. It’s a favorite spot for both locals and visitors.
The beach has soft, sandy areas along with rocky sections that appear when the tide is high. Surrounded by towering cliffs, creating a beautiful backdrop that makes for perfect photos.
Swimming is popular, especially during the summer when lifeguards are on duty. If you enjoy water sports, you can try surfing or kayaking in the waves. When the tide goes out, the rock pools become visible, and they’re great for exploring. You can discover all sorts of fascinating sea creatures hiding in the pools.
Wildlife enthusiasts will love this place as well. The area is home to many birds, including the rare chough. It’s a fantastic spot for birdwatching, so keep your eyes peeled!
At Dunraven Bay (Southerndown Beach), there are specific rules regarding dogs. From May 1 to September 30, dogs are not allowed on the beach. This ban is in place during the busy summer season to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all visitors. However, from October 1 onwards, dogs are welcome back on the beach, allowing for enjoyable walks and playtime during the autumn and winter months.
