Visit Greatstone Beach
Greatstone Beach is a large flat soft sandy beach on the Kent coast. Stretching for around two miles from Dungeness power station, it is easy to reach, driving from New Romney following the signs.
The beach offers safe swimming conditions during high tide, making it a favored spot for families and beachgoers looking to enjoy the sea. Facilities include public toilets, picnic areas, and nearby cafes and shops. The beach is equipped to accommodate families and individuals looking for a full day out
The wide open spaces at Greatstone beach make it a great place for kitesurfing and the less well known, landyachting. Windsurfing, sailing and fishing also take place here..
The sand dunes between the beach and the coastal road are a great area for a ramble through the nature reserve to enjoy the bird life. The dunes have been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest with so many rare species of plants and wildlife.
Did you Know? Just inland from Greatstone beach are Sound Mirrors, built in the 1920s and 1930s to detect enemy aircraft.
While dogs are allowed on the beach, there are restrictions from May 1 to September 30 in certain areas to protect wildlife and ensure safety for all visitors. Restricted from 1st April to 30 Oct from the beach opposite the Jolly Fisherman.
The Romney, Hythe, and Dymchurch Railway passes near Greatstone Beach, providing a scenic train ride along the coast, which is a delight for train enthusiasts.
