Visit Totland Bay
Totland Bay is a quieter, more relaxed alternative to some of the Isle of Wight’s busier beaches. Tucked away on the island’s western side, it offers open sea views, clear water and a calm, laid-back feel that appeals to couples, walkers and anyone looking to escape the crowds. It’s the sort of place where time slows down and a simple walk along the shore feels like a treat.
The beach itself is mainly shingle with patches of sand at low tide, backed by a long promenade that makes access easy for all ages. The water here is often clear and calm, especially in settled weather, making it popular for swimming. On warm days, locals and visitors alike can be found enjoying a peaceful dip or simply soaking up the sun.
Totland Bay is also well known for its sunsets. Facing west, it offers some of the best evening views on the island, with the sun dropping into the sea beyond the Needles. It’s a lovely spot for an early evening stroll, ice cream in hand, as the sky changes colour over the water.
For walkers, Totland Bay is a great starting point. Coastal paths lead towards Colwell Bay in one direction and Headon Warren and the Needles in the other. These routes offer dramatic clifftop views and are among the most scenic walks on the Isle of Wight.
