Visit Appley Beach
Appley Beach is one of the most popular beaches on the Isle of Wight and a favourite with families visiting Ryde. Known for its wide stretch of golden sand, safe swimming waters and excellent facilities, it is an easy choice for a relaxed seaside day. With cafés, parking, dog-friendly areas and direct access from Ryde Pier, Appley Beach combines classic seaside charm with modern convenience.
Located just north of Ryde town centre, the beach offers open views across the Solent towards Portsmouth and the Spinnaker Tower. At low tide, the sand seems to go on forever, making it ideal for walks, children’s play and peaceful moments by the sea.
Families are especially well catered for, with a children’s play area, nearby toilets and cafés within a short walk of the sand. The beach also links directly into Ryde, so you can easily combine a beach visit with shopping, lunch or a stroll along the pier.
The water quality is excellent and during the summer season lifeguards are on duty, making it suitable for swimming and paddling. Wide, level paths run along the seafront, making access easy for pushchairs and wheelchairs.
Appley Beach Things to Do
There is plenty to keep visitors of all ages entertained at Appley Beach.
You can enjoy long walks along the shoreline, especially at low tide when the beach opens out into a vast sandy expanse. Children love building sandcastles, playing near the water’s edge and visiting the nearby playground. If you prefer to relax, the beach is perfect for sunbathing or sitting with a coffee while watching ferries and yachts pass by.
A real highlight is Appley Tower, a Victorian fairytale-style folly sitting right on the seafront. It adds character to the beach and is a popular spot for photos. From here, you can continue walking towards Seaview or head back into Ryde along the promenade.
Appley Beach Café Options
There are several places to eat and drink close to the beach. The Big Kahuna is a well-known beachside café serving hot drinks, ice creams and light meals, ideal for families and walkers. Additional cafés and food spots can be found along the seafront and in Ryde town centre, all within easy walking distance.
