Hoylake Beach

Visit Hoylake Beach

Hoylake Beach is on the northwestern corner of the Wirral Peninsula in Merseyside. The beach runs from the RNLI Hoylake Lifeboat Station to Red Rocks nature reserve.

The beach is known for its wide expanse of sand that appears when the tide goes out, panoramic views of the Liverpool Bay (along with a few offshore wind farms) and glorious sunsets. Backed by a long promenade for walking or cycling, and enjoying the coastline.

Hoylake Beach is a top spot for sand yachting, (also known as land yachting or land sailing) and kite buggying.

The beach provides a great location for this activity, and it is popular among enthusiasts, with the Wirral Sand Yacht Club based nearby. The expansive sandy area at Hoylake allows for plenty of space to enjoy sand yachting and kite buggying, making it an ideal destination to try out the sport.

People do swim at Hoylake Beach, even though it’s not officially classified as a designated bathing beach. Many locals enjoy swimming there, especially during the warmer months.

It is possible to participate in organised groups that swim along the coastline, including routes to nearby Hilbre Island.

The beach is also home to the Hoylake Sailing Club, which organises local events and competitions.

If you head west to the very tip of the peninsular you find get to Red Rocks Nature Reserve. There is a beach here, and a lovely nature reserve filled with sand dunes and marshes. It’s a great spot for walking and birdwatching with views of the Welsh coast.

The striking red-colored rocks are perfect for rock pooling at low tide.

To get to Red Rocks, you can walk along the beach or drive down Stanley road (you have to park on the roadside), right behind the golf course.

For golf lovers, the Royal Liverpool Golf Club overlooking Hoylake Beach is a must-visit spot. As the UK’s second oldest golf links, it has a rich history and has hosted many prestigious tournaments, including The Open Championship. Golf enthusiasts can enjoy a round while taking in the beautiful coastal scenery!

Hoylake is a dog-friendly beach, making it popular with dog walkers, and offers easy access with plenty of free parking nearby and a train station just a five-minute walk away.
