Sunderland Point

Visit Sunderland Point

Sunderland Point sits along the marshes, on the peninsula between the mouth of the River Lune and Morecambe Bay. It’s a beautiful spot on the Lancashire coast.

Getting to Sunderland Point is quite a unique experience, thanks to its tidal access! The village is connected by a single-track road that gets covered by water during high tides, which means even residents have to keep an eye on the tide schedule.

Once you are there, it is ideal for long walks and enjoying the unique charm and natural coastal landscape.

A bustling cotton port in the 18th century, Sunderland Point has Grade II listed buildings, which reflect its rich history and architectural heritage. Today it is a haven for wildlife, with otters often spotted in the waters and the area serving as an important stopover for migrating birds, making it a favorite spot for birdwatchers.

Ideal for walking the dogs, although they must be kept on leads, this stretch of coast has plenty of space. While it can get a bit muddy at times, the stunning views and peaceful atmosphere make it all worth it.
