Visit Port Carlisle
Port Carlisle is a coastal village in Allerdale, Cumbria, within the civil parish of Bowness-on-Solway. Originally known as Fisher’s Cross, it gained its current name when it became the terminus of the Carlisle Canal.
Port Carlise is a rural beach backed by a green grassy area and countryside. The area is popular for birdwatching, especially during migration seasons in autumn and spring. Various species of wildfowl and waders can be observed here.
The old harbour wall at Port Carlisle is a significant historical feature that reflects the village’s maritime past. Today, remnants can still be seen along the shoreline. These structures are a testament to the engineering efforts of the time and the once-bustling activity of the port.
Port Carlisle is located near the Hadrian’s Wall Path, making it a good starting point for walkers. Visitors can explore the remnants of the old port, railway station, and canal walls, which reflect the village’s rich history.
