Visit Porth Trecastell (Cable Bay)
Porth Trecastell, also known as Cable Bay, is a picturesque beach located on the southern coast of Anglesey, Wales, between the villages of Rhosneigr and Aberffraw.
There’s a convenient pay-and-display car park right off the A4080 road, which runs between Aberffraw and Rhosneigr. The beach is just a short walk from the car park, (only about 30 to 40 steps), making it easy to carry your beach gear down to the sand.
It’s a lovely sandy beach framed by gentle dunes and rocky outcrops. The beach is known for its clean waters, which are perfect for swimming and snorkeling.
Porth Trecastell is not just about sunbathing and swimming. If you’re into water sports, you’ll find it’s a fantastic spot for kayaking, canoeing, and even windsurfing. The sheltered cove provides safe access to the water, making it ideal for both beginners and seasoned adventurers.
For those who prefer to stay on land, there are lovely coastal walks. One popular route leads to the nearby Barclodiad y Gawres, an ancient Neolithic burial chamber that offers a glimpse into the area’s rich history. The views from this site are spectacular, making the short hike worthwhile.
Porth Trecastell does get busy during the summer months, especially on sunny days when many people flock to enjoy the beach
Porth Trecastell (Cable Bay) is dog-friendly all year round.
