Abermenai Beach

Visit Abermenai Beach

Abermenai Beach also known as Traeth Melynog is a long sandy beach with views looking across towards Caernarfon. Follow the paths across the dunes towards Abermenai Point, the southernmost place in Anglesey.

When you get to the end of Abermenai Point, (once an important port) you will find the derelict ferry house and views of Fort Belan across the water.

It is a spit rather than a traditional beach. It is a long, narrow landform made up of sand dunes and shingle that extends into the Menai Strait. This marks the entrance to the strait from the southern tip of Anglesey. This spit is characterised by its dynamic geography, shaped by tidal movements and sediment deposition, and it plays a significant role in the coastal ecosystem of the area.

A great place to take the dog for a long walk.

It’s important to time your visit for low tide, as some paths may be within tidal zones. Be cautious of the tides, as they can rise quickly and may make some areas impassable.
