Visit Pentewan Beach
Once a thriving port, today Pentewan Sands, just north of Mevagissey Harbour is a popular family holiday destination. This east-facing beach offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and modern amenities.
As you step onto the wide, sandy shore, you’ll be greeted by the breathtaking views of St Austell Bay. The beach’s generous size means there’s always plenty of space to spread out and relax, even on the busiest summer days.
For water enthusiasts, Pentewan is a paradise. The sheltered location makes it generally safe for swimming, while the calm waters are perfect for trying your hand at paddle boarding, kayaking, or sailing. Equipment rentals are available right on the beach, so you can easily dive into a new adventure.
Families love the children’s play area right on the beach, perfect for little ones who need a change of pace from sandcastle building and wave-jumping. The easy, level access from the car park makes it a breeze to bring all your beach gear (and tired toddlers) to and from the shore.
There is a large holiday camp backing the beach and on the other side of St Austell river, is the old harbour basin. The channel to the harbour has long since silted up and now make up part of the beach.
Pentewan Sands sailing club sits at the far end of the beach. The beach is privately owned, but access is allowed from Pentewan village.
As part of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Pentewan Beach is also an excellent starting point for exploring the stunning Cornish landscape. Take a stroll along the South West Coast Path for breathtaking sea views, or venture inland on the Pentewan Valley Trail for a peaceful woodland walk.
There is limited space at the Pentewan village car park.
There’s a seasonal dog ban from March 1st to November 1st.
Whether you’re soaking up the sun, riding the waves, building sandcastles, or simply enjoying the view, Pentewan Beach offers a perfect slice of Cornish coastal life.
