Visit Fishcombe Beach, Brixham
Fishcombe Beach is a small, sheltered cove hidden within woodland just north of Brixham Harbour, in South Devon. Reached by a short walk through Battery Gardens, it feels a world away from the busy marina despite being only minutes from town.
The beach is rocky and pebbled, with exceptionally clear water that makes it one of the best snorkelling spots in the area. On calm days, visibility is excellent, and shoals of fish are often seen close to shore. Seals occasionally pass through the bay, adding an element of surprise for swimmers and kayakers.
Fishcombe sits within Battery Gardens, a former WWII coastal defence site. Concrete gun emplacements and military remnants can still be explored nearby, adding historical interest to a beach visit. Interpretation boards explain the area’s wartime role in protecting the harbour.
The beach is dog-friendly year-round, making it popular with local walkers outside peak season. A small café above the shore offers refreshments with sea views, serving light meals and local seafood during the main season.
Due to its sheltered nature, Fishcombe is ideal for paddleboarding and kayaking, particularly for beginners. The surrounding woodland also provides welcome shade on hot summer days.
There is parking nearby, with a steep slope and steps leading down to the beach.
