Visit Rinsey Cove
Rinsey Cove, also known as Porthcew, is this beautiful little beach tucked away on the south coast of Cornwall. If you’re looking for a spot that feels a bit off the beaten path, this is it! The cove is situated beneath the remnants of the Wheal Prosper Mine engine house, a nod to Cornwall’s rich mining history.
You’ll have to take a steep path down from a nearby National Trust car park. It’s easier to access at low tide, so plan your visit accordingly. (At high tide the beach almost disappears.) The path can be a bit rocky, so it’s not the best choice for families with little ones or anyone who might have trouble with steep climbs.
Today, the Wheal Prosper Mine engine house and the surrounding area are part of walking trails that allow visitors to explore the stunning coastal scenery.
The site is also recognised for its geological significance, being part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to the unique rock formations and ecosystems present in the vicinity.
The South West Coast Path backs the beach and there are excellent walks north of the beach to Rinsey Head.
To the south of the beach, a short walk along the coastal path is Ray Pool. This tidal pool is a fabulous secret spot for the afternoon.
There is free car parking at the top of the cliff, with a short walk down to the beach.
