Polpeor Beach

Visit Polpeor Cove

Polpeor Cove is a small cove located on the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall, immediately to to the west of Lizard Point. It is overlooked by the old Lizard Lifeboat station is mainland Britain’s most most southerly beach.

To get to beach cove pass by the gift shop and cafe, you’ll head down a short, steep path that leads towards Polpeor Cove.

You can stand (at the very end of England) and take in the views of the rugged cliffs and the turquoise waters of the Atlantic Ocean. While swimming is not reccommended here due to strong currents, the cove offers a lovely spot to relax and explore.

After exploring the area, head to the Polpeor Cafe ‘Britain’s Most Southerly Cafe’, for a treat. They serve a traditional Cornish cream tea, which typically includes freshly baked scones, clotted cream, and jam, accompanied by a pot of tea. On a sunny day the outdoor terrace is particularly inviting, allowing you to soak up the sun and watch the ocean.

It’s a great spot for wildlife enthusiasts. Visitors often come to see Atlantic grey seals, various seabirds, and sometimes even dolphins and basking sharks. The wildlife watchpoint at Lizard Point allows visitors to borrow binoculars and learn about local wildlife from volunteers. It is open from spring until the end of summer.

The lighthouse is located just a short walk from Lizard Point. Built in 1752, is another key landmark as it has served as a crucial navigational aid for ships passing through one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world.

There is a short circular walk which takes about half an hour, (look out for the signs) or you can continue on to some of the nearby coves.

Whether you’re interested in photography, history, or simply enjoying nature, Polpeor Cove is definitely worth a visit!
