Visit Poldhu Cove
Poldhu Cove (sometimes known as Black Pool Cove) is located on the west side of the Lizard Peninsula, just about a mile north of Mullion.
The beach is backed by beautiful sand dunes, and there’s even a little stream that trickles across the cove. At low tide, there’s tons of space to explore, with interesting rocks and caves to check out. The water is clear and inviting, making it a great place for a swim, but do keep an eye on the currents, especially if you have kids with you.
This lovely west facing beach is a great place to go if you want to learn to surf. It’s a popular spot, and there’s a surf school run by a former pro surfer, Dan Joel. If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to surf, this is a great place to take a lesson!
There are lifeguards on duty from mid-May to late September. They keep an eye on things, which is great, but just be aware of the signs warning about strong currents and big waves.
And if you’re not into surfing, you can just relax on the beach and soak up the sun. There’s a lovely café nearby where you can grab some snacks and drinks while enjoying the stunning views
Did you Know? You can visit the Poldhu Wireless Station (Marconi Monument), Cornwall where the the first signals were transmitted across the Atlantic Ocean
Whether you’re interested in surfing, exploring the rich history of Marconi’s pioneering work, or simply enjoying a day at the beach, Poldhu Cove is for you.
If you’re planning to bring your dog along, there’s a seasonal dog ban from July 1st to August 31st between 10am and 6pm. Outside of those hours, dogs are welcome, and there are some lovely footpaths around the beach for walks.
