Dollar Cove

Visit Dollar Cove

Dollar Cove or ‘Jangye-Ryn’ a small secluded sandy beach located on the eastern coast of the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall. It sits between the villages of Gunwalloe and Porthleven. It features a beautiful stretch of sandy beach flanked by high cliffs and rocky outcrops, making it a stunning location for beachgoers.

The name ‘Dollar Cove’ is derives from a legend that a Spanish treasure ship sank here in the 18th century, carrying a cargo of silver dollars. While the story remains unconfirmed, many treasure hunters still hope to find hidden riches buried in the sands.

Dollar Cove is popular for rockpooling, thanks to the clear waters and diverse marine life. It’s a great spot for exploring the underwater world.

The beach is known for its rocky outcrops and historical shipwrecks. Visitors should exercise caution, especially if paddling in the sea and exploring the rocky areas.

While there may not be food vendors directly on the beach, there are nearby options such as the Cove Cafe in Gunwalloe, which serves sandwiches, pastries, and coffee. The Halzephron Inn, known for traditional British cuisine, is also close by.

The beach is backed by the South West Coastal path and there is a National Trust Car park nearby.

The beach is dog-friendly all year round, you can bring your four legged friends along for a day of fun in the sun.
