Merthyr Mawr Beach

Visit Merthyr Mawr Beach

Merthyr Mawr Beach sits on the edge of the Ogmore River, on the beautiful Welsh coast.

The sweeping sandy beach is backed by vast dunes and the Merthyr Mawr Nature Reserve. The classic 1962 movie, Lawrence of Arabia, was filmed here. They filmed some of the desert scenes in the dunes!

There are lots of trails and wide open spaces. A wonderful place to get away from the crowds.

Look out for the Robinson Crusoe shack in the sand.

Access to the beach is through the Nature reserve. It is about a half hour walk from the carpark. Or, you can walk along the beach from Newton Bay.
