Thurstaston Beach

Visit Thurstaston Beach

Thurstaston Beach is a lovely spot on the Wirral Peninsula in Merseyside, stretching along the Dee Estuary. It’s a fantastic place to take in stunning views across the of North Wales and the beautiful Clwydian Hills.

To get onto the beach follow the signs from the Wirral Country Park and down the steps leading to the sand.

The beach looks quite different at low tide compared to high tide. At low tide, you’ll have more sandy space to enjoy, perfect for activities and seaside fun.

Have a picnic in the sandy dunes, pile up some pebbles and enjoy the sea air.

Swimming at Thurstaston Beach is not recommended. There are warning signs in place because of strong and fast-moving tides, as well as the presence of quicksand in the area. For those looking to swim, the nearby West Kirby beach is a much safer option.

You can walk along the beach at low tide from Thurstaston to Kirby.

For exploring more of the area, the Wirral Way – a beautiful walking and cycling path runs alongside the beach. You can easily make a day of it, from here you can easily visit the Wirral Country Park or hike the Circular Walk.

As you head to the northern end of the beach you will come to the Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite and then the Dee Sailing Club along Station Road. There is also some parking here.

During the peak summer season, it can get a little busy, especially on warm weekends and holidays when families and beachgoers flock to the coast.

Thurstaston Beach is dog-friendly, allowing dogs at all times of the year. It’s a great spot for dog owners to enjoy long walks along beach, especially since it tends to be quieter compared to other beaches in the area.

There are also nearby facilities, such as Flissy’s Coffee Shop, which welcomes dogs in its outdoor seating area, making it a perfect place to relax after a day at the beach with your four-legged friend.
