Visit Hale Towans Beach
Hayle Towans beach in West Cornwall forms part of a remarkable three‐mile stretch of golden sand that often joins with neighbouring beaches when the tide is low. Its vastness means there’s plenty of space to relax, play beach games, or simply take in the sweeping coastal views without feeling cramped.
Hayle Towans Beach great for a family holiday, with many caravan parks in the area. Nature lovers and birdwatchers can take walk along the beach, as it winds into the Hayle estuary, abundant with rare and endangered species.
“Towans” is the Cornish word for dunes, and this beach is framed by a dynamic system of rolling dunes. These natural features not only provide a stunning backdrop but are also a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest, meaning they support a diverse range of flora and fauna – and help to keep the coastline unspoilt.
Thanks to its broad expanse and naturally sheltered areas created by the dunes, this beach is perfect for families. There are plenty of rock pools to explore at low tide, and the wide sandy areas are great for building sandcastles and enjoying a picnic by the sea.
The water here is known for cleanliness. Although the sea is inviting for a dip or a surf, always check tide times before you enter the water. RNLI Lifeguards are on duty during the busy summer months, ensuring an extra level of safety for all water users.
Whether you’re keen on surfing, kite surfing, or even windsurfing, Hayle Towans offers conditions that attract water sports enthusiasts year-round. Several local surf schools provide lessons and equipment hire, making it a great spot for beginners and seasoned boarders alike.
Visitors will find it also has a few handy facilities. There are public toilets, refreshment outlets, and cafés in the vicinity where you can refuel after a long day by the sea.
The beach is closely linked to Hayle’s rich maritime and industrial heritage. After enjoying the sand and surf, take a short stroll into town to explore quaint local shops, sample fresh Cornish pasties in a traditional tearoom, or enjoy a pint at a seaside pub steeped in local history.
During the busy summer months when restrictions apply. Dogs are welcome on the beach except during July and August from 10am – 6pm when a seasonal dog ban is in place
