St Donats Beach

Visit St Donats Beach

St Donats is a small rocky bay backed by a sea wall and the grounds of the 12th century St Donat’s Castle, in the Vale of Glamorgan.

With stunning views of the Bristol Channel, the beach is accessible from nearby paths and is less crowded than other beaches in the area, being slightly off the beaten track.

The medieval castle is now home to Atlantic College (what an amazing place to study) with a church and areas licensed for wedding ceremonies, making it an ideal coastal wedding venue (available only from June through August), just 40 minutes drive from central Cardiff.

Did you know? the American newspaper millionaire William Randolph Hearst owned the castle in the 20’s renovating it and hosting lavish parties with famous celebrity guests of the day.

You can walk from Llantwit Major, passing Tresilian Bay Beach, to St Donats. It is about three miles along the Wales Coast Path, making it a manageable distance for most walkers.
