Ogmore Beach

Visit Ogmore Beach

Ogmore-by-Sea is a charming seaside village in the St Brides Major community on the Glamorgan coast in Wales. Just a stone’s throw from Bridgend and a short drive from Cardiff, a region known for its stunning natural beauty and geological significance.

You can swim at Ogmore Beach! Stick to designated swimming areas along the beach, Never swim in the River Ogmore, as it’s prohibited for safety reasons.

The unspoilt beach is well known for watersports including surfing and kayaking. There are life guards on duty daily from July through to September.

Historically, the area has been a graveyard for ships due to its west-facing beach and strong onshore winds. Tusker Rock, a reef covered at high tide, has been the site of many shipwrecks.

Flanked by the River Ogmore estuary and the rolling dunes of Merthyr Mawr, Ogmore-by-Sea is a nature lover’s paradise.

Take a walk along the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, part of the Vale Trail 1, and enjoy the area’s stunning geology and diverse wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for rare plants and seabirds!

History comes alive at Ogmore Castle. These ancient ruins overlooking the shoreline offer a glimpse into Wales’ medieval past. As you explore, you might hear tales of shipwrecks on nearby Tusker Rock.

Remember to check tide times to make the most of your beach experience. Bring sturdy shoes for rocky areas.

Good news for pet owners. Ogmore Beach welcomes dogs all year round without restrictions. It’s considered one of the best dog-friendly beaches in the area, so bring your furry friend along for the adventure!
