Visit Fontygary Bay
Fontygary Bay located on the Vale of Glamorgan Heritage Coastline, offers visitors a breathtaking combination of panoramic sea views and stunning natural scenery. This part of the coast is renowned for the popular Fontygary Caravan Park, which sits atop the cliffs, overlooking the stunning Aberthaw Nature Reserve.
The Caravan Park Facilities
While the Fontygary Caravan Park serves as a delightful holiday destination, its facilities are open to the public, allowing everyone to experience the beauty of this coastal gem. Take a scenic walk down to the beach and along the coast path, leading to the fascinating remains of the Aberthaw Lime Kilns. Alternatively, heading in the opposite direction will take you towards the charming village of Porthkerry.
Accessing the Beach
The beach at Fontygary Bay is accessed through the holiday park. Follow the path that winds behind the main reception complex, leading you downwards towards the shingle beach and impressive cliffs that form this section of the coastline. At low tide, the large Font-y-Gary Cave becomes visible, offering a unique opportunity to explore this natural wonder.
Coastal Caution
While the cliffs along this stretch of coast are undoubtedly picturesque, it’s important to exercise caution due to the risk of rock falls caused by erosion. Walking under the foot of the cliffs is strongly discouraged, as safety should be a top priority for all visitors.
