Fontygary Bay

Visit Fontygary Bay

Fontygary Bay is located in the coastal village of Fontygary on the Glamorgan coast, Wales, about three miles southwest of Barry.

It is well-known for the Fontygary Leisure Park, a popular caravan park, offering a variety of family-friendly activities and amenities.

The beach at Fontygary Bay is accessed through the park, which backs the beach. Follow the path that winds behind the main reception complex, leading you downwards towards the shingle beach and impressive cliffs that form this section of the coastline.

At low tide, the large Font-y-Gary Cave becomes visible, offering a unique opportunity to explore this natural wonder.

Take a scenic walk down to the beach and along the coast path, leading to the fascinating remains of the Aberthaw Lime Kilns. Alternatively, heading in the opposite direction will take you towards Porthkerry.

While the cliffs along this stretch of coast are undoubtedly picturesque, it’s important to exercise caution due to the risk of rock falls caused by erosion. Walking under the foot of the cliffs is strongly discouraged, as safety should be a top priority for all visitors.

The beach is dog-friendly all year round. They love walking along the clifftop paths.
