Bexhill Beach

Visit Bexhill Beach

Bexhill-on-Sea offers a wide shingle and pebble beach backed by one of the longest promenades on the East Sussex coast. The town is known for its calm pace and open seafront, making it popular with walkers, cyclists, and families looking for space.

The De La Warr Pavilion sits directly on the seafront and is a major landmark. This modernist building hosts art exhibitions, performances, and events throughout the year, adding cultural interest to one of the most established East Sussex beaches.

Bexhill’s beach is mostly shingle at all tide levels, with clear water and gently sloping access in places. The promenade is flat and well maintained, ideal for longer walks or mobility-friendly access. Parks and gardens sit just behind the seafront, offering green space close to the shore.

It’s the perfect place to get away from it all, and there are charming beach huts for hire, and seafront cafes to enjoy.

Did you Know? The 2006 film Children of Men shows Bexhill as a government-quarantined refugee camp for immigrants awaiting deportation.

The town also has historic importance as the birthplace of British motor racing, with the first official race held here in 1902.

Bexhill Beach is dog friendly in the winter with restrictions during the summer.
