Castlerock Beach

Visit Castlerock Beach

Castlerock beach, not far from Benone beach, is a lovely wide open space backed by sand dunes.

The beach runs from Downhill to the River Bann estuary. The eastern side of the beach is backed by cliffs, with a Holiday park on the clifftops.

Heading west of Sea Road the beach is backed by natural sand dunes and leading to the Castlerock Golf Club. Walk along the boardwalks and promenade to the beach and dunes.

Both the beach and sand dunes are designated as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) as well as an Area of Special Scientific Interest (ASSI).

Carry on walking along the beach and you get to The Barmouth, a concrete pier and popular photo spot and fishing location.

If you are lucky you might spot a local seal or a harbour porpoise.

There is free parking close to the promenade as well as disabled toilets and disabled parking.

Dogs are allowed most of the year with restrictions from the 1st June to the 15th September.

This beach is …
