Oracle ‘Ozric’ Is Latest Tentacled Soccer Pundit
A new tentacled oracle was discreetly put to the test at Brighton Sea Life Centre yesterday (Friday).
Ozric the common octopus – named after Somerset rock band Ozric Tentacles – predicted wins for England against both Sweden and Ukraine.
“We’ve been trying to resist the temptation to trot out yet another pretender to the crown of the original and best octopus oracle Paul from Oberhausen,” said boss Max Leviston.
“But with seemingly every animal attraction in Europe jumping on the bandwagon, and enquiries coming in to us from national magazines and radio stations, we eventually succumbed.”
Tasty whiting were placed on two identical rubber tubes, one decorated with the England flag and the other with the flag of their respective opponents.
“Ozric was surprisingly emphatic in his choice of the England tube both times,” said curator Carey Duckhouse.
Having got his first prediction spot on, staff will now be watching anxiously on Tuesday night to see if both England and Ozric can make it two in a row!
“Maybe he’s a serious rival for legendary Paul after all,” said Max.
