Torbay-based theatre & film company announces performance dates for new historical stage drama, “Survivors of Titanic”

A new stage drama brings to life, one of the most famous maritime disasters of all time, the sinking of the Titanic, and the less known return of surviving crew, to Millbay Docks in Plymouth, by the South Devon Players Theatre and Film company.

Based on extensive research from many sources, this lavish, newly written, period drama, featuring local actors from around Torbay, brings to life the excitement and optimism that surrounded the sailing of the Titanic, the chaos of the disaster when it sank in the North Atlantic, and then the less known drama of the return of surviving crew to Millbay, Plymouth.

With all-new costumes, stage sets, this iconic tale explores many aspects of the story, including the pride in the Titanic’s building, the hope of people emigrating to a new life in America, the difference in social classes, what became of some local crew members and relatives of passengers, the Devon links to the Titanic, the controversy as to whether Sir Duff-Gordon bribed his way onto a lifeboat, or not, and much more. Suitable for the whole family, this drama is a fascinating exploration of some of the history, local links and controversies surrounding the doomed liner.

The drama will be performed at the Palace Theatre, on Palace Avenue, Paignton on the evening of Friday September 18th at 7pm, and at the Edge, on Bolton Street, Brixham on Saturday September 19th at 3pm and 7pm. Tickets can be obtained by contacting either venue, or online via the website” target=”_blank”>box-office page on the South Devon Players website

The South Devon Players is a lively, outgoing and friendly team which welcomes serious and friendly performers of all levels of experience.

This exciting new project also demonstrated that “amateur” theatre / drama groups do not need to be “amateur” in their approach to projects, and that ordinary people can achieve impressive projects. As well as continuting their 10 year tradition of lavish historical stage dramas, the Players are now also moving into film, and are currently shooting a 20 hour film drama of Les Miserables, based virtually word-for-word on Victor Hugo’s unabridged novel.

The South Devon Players Theatre Company are members of both the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) and of the Brixham Chamber of Commerce.
